Commercialization

Determine the best strategies and tools for leveraging your IP to drive revenue and accelerate your business

There are no “patent police” entities that exist to prevent others from misappropriating your IP; in that sense, your IP is only a deterrent to competitors to the extent that you’re willing to enforce it.

Licensing to third parties can generate revenue, and may be a good option if you can limit the license to “Fields of Use” that don’t compete with your company’s main business. On the other hand, late round investors might not want to see an IP portfolio that’s been extensively licensed out. What you decide will depend upon many factors: the company’s business model; the state of maturity of the technology and the IP portfolio; the company’s position vis-á-vis competitors; a willingness (or aversion) to litigate; or a combination of these and other factors.

The most important thing to remember is that most IP assets are time-limited, and they’re not going to move the needle for your company unless you actively put them to work. BELLINNOVO knows how to architect and execute plans for commercializing IP, starting with an audit of the company’s assets, aspirations, and exit strategy. It’s validating to see patents evolve from a few dusty plaques on the wall in your reception area to revenue at the end of the quarter.
